The Catalina Islands Of Costa Rica
The Catalina Islands are spectacular for diving at this time of year in Costa Rica. Over the past few weeks we have been having all kinds of luck when it comes to amazing dives. From humpbacks moms with their calves, to white tips, to the always impressive Giant Pacific mantas, scuba diving near Playa Flamingo Costa Rica has been awesome!
August and September aren’t two of the more popular months in general for travel to Costa Rica. In Costa Rica these are two of the wetter months in terms of rainfall. What many people don’t understand or appreciate is that for scuba divers the rainy period actually coincides with the best diving! Visibility is generally much better, water temperatures warmer, and the trips to the Bat Islands are possible much more frequently.
The weather itself shouldn’t be a huge deterrent either. The rain generally comes for an hour or two each day and then passes over before clearing up. In the evenings starting in late September you are also very likely to enjoy some incredible thunderstorms that generally happen over Santa Rosa National Park. If you are lucky enough to be staying at a place with an Ocean View, this is a very impressive spectacle.
Come on down and visit us at Rocket Frog in Costa Rica. We are happy to take you diving to the Bat islands, the Catalinas as well as local diving in the Gulf de Papagayo!
Pura Vida!
