Never dived before? Perfect.
Discover Scuba Diving is the easiest way to find out whether scuba is for you — no certification, no experience, no commitment. You’ll learn the basics, practice the essential skills in our pool, and then head out for two real ocean dives in the warm water of the Gulf de Papagayo, with a PADI instructor right beside you the whole time.
Every student gets private or semi-private instruction, so you’re never lost in a crowd. Most people surface from that first dive grinning and already asking about the next one.
What the day looks like
We run it as a relaxed two-day experience so nothing feels rushed:
- Classroom session — a short, plain-English look at how the gear works and how to stay comfortable underwater.
- Pool practice — try the key skills in calm, shallow water until breathing underwater feels normal.
- Two ocean dives — the real thing, out on the boat at gentle local sites, instructor at your shoulder.
Day one is the classroom and pool; day two is your two ocean dives. All your scuba gear is included — just bring a swimsuit, a towel and a sense of adventure.
Good to know before you book
- No experience required — complete beginners welcome.
- Minimum age 10.
- Reasonable health — you’ll complete a short medical questionnaire first; a few conditions need a doctor’s sign-off, and we’ll let you know if that’s you.
- Basic water comfort — no swim test required, but you should be okay in the water.
- Flying home? Leave a day between your last dive and your flight.
Love it? Your Discover Scuba dives can credit toward a full PADI Open Water certification if you decide to keep going.
Where you’ll dive
Your ocean dives are on our local sites in the Gulf de Papagayo, a short boat ride from Playas del Coco. We pick the calmest, easiest spots for first-timers — sheltered water, plenty to see, and your instructor choosing the site that’ll be best on the day.
Turtles, white-tip reef sharks, rays, eels, octopus and big schools of fish all turn up here. It’s a genuinely beautiful place to take your very first breaths underwater.
