Level up your diving

Advanced Open Water diving in the Gulf de Papagayo, Costa Rica

The PADI Advanced Open Water course takes you from a newly certified diver to a confident one — more experience, more skills, and the depth rating to go further. It’s the natural next step after Open Water, and it opens the door to bigger dives. We run it private or semi-private, in English or Spanish.

There’s no big exam. You’ll do five adventure dives in the warm Pacific off Playas del Coco, and come out a genuinely better diver.

Five dives, built around you

Two required dives, plus three you choose:

  • Deep — head toward 30 metres and learn how depth changes the dive.
  • Underwater Navigation — compass and natural navigation, so you always find your way back.

Then pick three more from options like Peak Performance Buoyancy, Night, Wreck, Drift, Search & Recovery, Fish ID, Digital Underwater Photography or Enriched Air (Nitrox) — we’ll help you build the mix that fits your diving.

Good to know before you book

  • Requires a PADI Open Water certification (or a qualifying equivalent). Not certified yet? Start with Open Water.
  • Minimum age 12 (ages 12–14 earn a Junior Advanced rating with shallower limits).
  • Reasonable health — a short medical questionnaire; a few conditions need a doctor’s sign-off.
  • Do the theory online first via PADI eLearning to spend more of your trip diving.

Advanced certifies you to 30 m / 100 ft — and it’s what we recommend before taking on the Bat Islands bull sharks.

Where you’ll dive

Pacific giant manta, a dive Advanced certification helps prepare you for, Costa Rica

Your adventure dives are on our local Gulf de Papagayo sites — warm, full of life, and with the right range of depths and conditions to learn on. From there, the deeper water at the Catalinas and the big animals at the Bat Islands are well within reach.
