Cupcake

Cupcake (in Spanish they use the Spanish word Tetas which has a slightly different meaning!) has 2 large rocks standing out of the water, the most southerly of our dive sites in the Catalinas.  A deeper start by dropping in the ocean facing side of the island, 90 ft, you can follow either to the north or south. The north point turns into a shallow shelved area at 35-45 ft where itś worth looking out for rays.  The inland side is great for all levels of divers as it has interesting rock faces with bigger boulders forming caves and a sandy bottom. White tip sharks are frequently seen here.

It’s possible to swim between the 2 islands through a rocky channel at about 50 ft.  If the waters are calm and you reach the inside of the smaller island and about 30 ft there is a small cave where sharks are often chilling.

Time of year and weather conditions can find the water temperatures to range between 65-80 degrees F (18-27C).

Marine life that are commonly seen at these sites include white tip reef sharks, eagle rays, devil rays, stingrays, eels, scorpion fish, octopus, schools of grunts, lobsters, nudibranchs and maybe a seahorse.
