I can only apologise to you all for the lack of blog in the last few weeks, but I will make up for it now with all the amazing things that have been going on!!
So firstly, we have had a few trips to Bat Islands, and after a few weeks of not seeing the Bull sharks, we have been seeing them at Bats lurking in the shadows swimming round us! Its has been so awe inspiring. They are such beautiful and graceful creatures and depite their terrible reputation, they are so docile. Sharks almost never attack divers, and if they do, it is because the diver has invaded their space and threatened them. “Jaws” the movie started this deep seated fear of sharks in the public, because before then, they were not feared nearly so much, and in some cultures they are actually revered and celebrated.
Not only have we still been seing Bull sharks, but Manta season is also beginning and we have been having a few Giant Pacific Manta sightings – both at Bats and locally. It promises to be an amazing Manta season…so don’t miss out! We have also been really lucky finding the smaller critters of the ocean. We found a mating pair of Seahorses the other day at “the rainbow” and some stunning speciaes of Nudibranch (my particular favourite!). We have been night diving alot recently, and the phosphorecence has been Spectacular! The other day with night dived at Tortuga, and reached our safety stop with plenty of air, so spent about 15 minutes playing at 5 meters with the mooring line and the glowing plankton. Magical!
On top of that, we have been getting busier and busier as the season picks up. Coco and the surrounding area is filling up, and we are loving it 🙂
On another note, I have powered through my Dive Master, and sat my final exam last week. Paperwork all got sent off…so pending my certification number, I am officially a Dive Master! It has been a wonderful few weeks and I have enjoed every minute of it. If you are contemplating doing it, I would give one word of warning: Don’t expect an easy ride. You will work harder than you have ever done in you life. The job is physically demanding, the course is mentally demanding, and the day to day interaction with customers and people is pretty emotionally exhausting. BUT: it is 110% worth every second. Spending so much time under water, meeting some of the most interesting and well travelled people, and living in beautiful sunny Costa Rica is truly one of the best things you can ever do.
So I am officially done…but I am not leaving! The high season is upon us, and nore diving is to be had. I will be around (and blogging!), and between things, I plan to complete my IDC and DDI (Disabled Diving international) course. I understand the divers life is not for everyone, but as my Mum always taught me “Dont knock it ’till youvé tried it”, so I’m going to see how it works out! My Mum is pretty clever after all!
At the end of the day, life is pretty sweet here, and the longer I can stay, the better!!
