Costa Rica is translated to mean “Rich Coast” in english. A huge part of that has to do with how abundant the marine life along it’s coast and how well it has provided for fisherman for generations. It is this same reason that makes the area such an amazing location for scuba diving. We do, however, sometimes get spouses or family of our customers who aren’t interested in diving and want to know what there is to do in the area. The answer is plenty.
Costa Rica is an absolutely amazing country with incredible biodiversity on the land. It has several different microclimates in a relatively small country which mean that a rainforest still exists only a short drive away from our location where in the month of April we may not have had a drop of rain in 5 months. It has more wildlife than you can imagine. There are several species of monkeys which are quite easy to find in our province, several species of the feline family including the jaguar, and enough birds to make it a worldwide birdwatching destination.
If you factor in the gorgeous beaches which line our coast, the volcanoes and hot springs which are only a short drive away, the rainforest, the riverboat tours and white water rafting, fishing, surfing, and the waterfalls, this country is an outdoors persons dream.
If you aren’t into outdoorsy type stuff there is still things which you can do. One of the tours which people love to take is a day trip to Nicaragua. There is a ton of history which can be explored in a single day. You can visit an old city, learn its history and some of its culture and be back to your hotel in the same day.
If you are interested in going out on the town or enjoying some fantastic restaurants, Playas del Coco has you covered. Only a 5 minute drive from our location at Playa Ocotal, Playas del Coco, has several different styles of local and international cuisine. They also have several night clubs and bars which are usually quite active during the night. If you are into gambling there is even a casino which can be found on the main drag as well as plenty of local shops and stores.
You will find the Costa Rican people to be extremely happy and friendly people which is really the icing on the cake. So if, for whatever reason, you or your spouse isn’t into diving, you should not let that deter you from visiting this beautiful country! If you are into diving or would like to learn to dive, we would be more than happy to help you!
