Today was my first day back in the water after a week of being out sick! It was such a relief to be back in the ocean where I belong! I was welcomed back to the ocean right away on our dive at Argentina Point by this cute guy pictured above. He was extremely friendly and let me get close enough to get a couple glamour shots of him, as do most of the wildlife here in Costa Rica!
I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many great people while working as a Divemaster Intern at Rocket Frog Divers! The customer base spans out all across the world, including France, Belgium, and even my home state of Minnesota! The stories I’ve been making with these people are unforgettable and it’s truely an honor to be able to introduce them to the beauty of Costa Rican diving.
My dates with the compressor are gradually becoming a more pleasurable experience. At first it was overwhelming, confusing, loud, and unpleasant. Now I’ve grown to enjoy the hum of the compressor while I (slowly) read a book in Spanish and I’m growing to love the workout lifting the tanks in and out of the cooling bucket. It’s slowly getting easier and easier to lift them and I can now occasionally, depending on the weather conditions, carry TWO tanks at once! I also quickly found out it’s a requirement to douse yourself in bug spray before going up to the compressor! Youch!
My co-workers are some of the most amazing people I’ve ever met and had the pleasure of working with. Nere and Mike, the owners, take anyone and everyone under their wings and treat them like family. Concho and Guayo, the divemasters I’ve been aspiring to become, are geniuses in and out of the water. Pin and Oscar, the captains, are extremely nice people who love to get a good laugh at the expense of the intern. I’ve never felt out of place since the moment I stepped into the shop as an intern because of how welcoming and loving they all are to the people around them. I’ve learned so much from everyone and can’t be more thankful for their patience as I learn the ways of the shop!
Alas, it’s nearing that time where I need to close up the shop for the night. Rest assured as I turn off the lights and lock the doors I never forget to grab a cookie for the ride home! ๐
Until next time, everyone! Pura Vida!
