The shoe, or fancy shoe is named for the land rock formation that looks like an espadrille! This site was recently found whilst we were looking for a place to stay out of the rough waters during the windy season which sadly makes some island dive sites unreachable. You can enter in a couple of areas and its perfect for all levels of divers. Coming closer to the beach, beginner levels can drop into about 20ft of water with a sandy/shingly bottom but lots to see. Heading south away from the coastline the waters head deeper (up to 70ft) and towards the end of the headland are a range of pinnacles with sandy bottoms which are great for exploring!
This is a site where you could see a little bit of everything all in one dive, schools of devil rays have been spotted as have seahorses (4 on one dive once!), sharks and stingrays.
Time of year and weather conditions can find the water temperatures to range between 65-80 degrees F (18-27C).
White tips, stingrays, eagle rays and devil rays have been seen here. Other marine life that is commonly seen includes moray eels, octopus,round rays, lobster, nudibranchs and seahorses.
