The past few days have been dedicated to developing the skills that a divemaster needs outside of leading certified divers around local dive sites. We spent some time in the pool reviewing skills that are taught in all the various certification levels before reaching the divemaster level. These skills are needed to be a good divemaster because you must be able to assist the instructor in the pool and in open water to certify divers. That actually turned out to be a lot more fun than I thought it would be because I have already been taught these skills and the pool session was just a refresher.
Last night was really a lot of fun watching the Costa Rica vs Mexico soccer game with a bunch of people from Coco and I am even more excited to see the Stanley Cup finals tonight and maybe teach some people here about Ice Hockey!
Today I got to spend some time in the shop while everyone else was out diving or bringing tanks to San Jose, while there was not much action today I really got to see what running a dive shop is all about. These are also valuable skills as a divemaster and in all aspects of life. It was also really nice to know that I was someone in whom Mike, Flacco, and Nere trusted to keep the shop in order until they came back from whatever they were doing. I also being one of 3 people at the shop who has a drivers license got to drive over to Hermosa bay to pick up the divers in the morning, which was a very interesting experience because Costa Ricans are quite possibly the craziest divers in the world (at least out of the places I have driven before).
Tomorrow I am excited to get back out there are dive in the ocean again and look forward to a great trip to Bat Islands, looking for some Bull Sharks!
