Pajarro, or bird island, is one of the closest sites to our Flamingo base. Be careful if you get too close though, the island has a large number of birds hanging out and nesting and is thus covered in guano and can be pretty smelly, so keep your mask on!
Perfect spot for beginner divers to find their gills. Shallow sandy bottom covered in interesting critters and beautiful sea stars. Keep your eyes open for small round rays in the sands and for the numerous puffer species that can be seen here.
Small rock outcroppings abound on the northern side which stays pretty shallow at 30-40ft, the southern side heading towards the ocean can reach about 50ft and has had the odd sighting of nurse sharks and turtles.
Time of year and weather conditions can find the water temperatures to range between 65-80 degrees F (18-27C).
Other marine life that is commonly seen includes Clown shrimp, moray eels, octopus, puffer species, angel and butterfly fish, sea stars and maybe some round rays. Coastal sites are also good places to look for seahorses and nudibranchs!
